Adentan on Flood Alert: NADMO Cracks Down on Drain Dumping

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued a strong warning to residents of Adentan Lakeside to stop dumping refuse into drains, as authorities intensify efforts to prevent flooding in the area. The caution comes after just 30 minutes of rainfall on April 2 triggered localised flooding in communities including Nyamekrom and Room 6, raising fresh concerns about the area’s drainage capacity ahead of the peak rainy season. Speaking to Citi News on Saturday, April 4, the Adentan Municipal Director of NADMO, Eric Kofi Padi, blamed the situation on human activities, particularly the disposal of domestic waste into gutters, which he said is obstructing the free flow of water. “If you look at the human activities that have blocked the gutters, you cannot imagine—they are coming from our homes. The domestic waste in the drains is the reason why the drains cannot flow. Whoever is found engaging in such activities will face the law,” he warned. Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Adentan, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, has assured residents that steps are being taken to address the drainage challenges and reduce the risk of future flooding.
