Mahama to Visit Akosombo Dam After GRIDCO Fire

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to visit the Akosombo Dam on Thursday, April 30, to assess the impact of a recent fire outbreak at a Ghana Grid Company substation. The fire affected critical equipment, leading to the loss of more than 1,000 megawatts of power to the national grid. This has caused intermittent outages in several areas and renewed concerns about “dumsor.” Government officials say efforts are underway to restore full power supply. According to Energy Minister John Jinapor, four power generation units at the dam have already been brought back into operation, with the remaining units expected to be restored within the week. The President’s visit will include briefings from technical teams on repair works and steps being taken to prevent future disruptions in the power transmission system.
